The Bundesrat: Portrait of a Building

Offices

The lateral wings of the building housed, at the beginning of the 20th Century, the official apartments of the directors of the secretariat, and of the presidents of both chambers, of the Prussian State Parliament. Later, they were occupied by the offices of the Academy of Sciences and of other GDR institutions.

Today, the redesigned offices offer a pleasant and modern work-environment. The walls are, on parts of their surfaces, wainscoted in birch- or veneered in cherry-wood and the flooring is of smoked oak parquet. The large windows, preserved in their original dimensions, ensure that the offices are suffused by daylight.

The Bundesrat also has offices in the North Wing of the Detlev Rohwedder Building, the former Reich Aviation Ministry. Passages on two floors of this latter building link it to the Bundesrat premises.
